Mission of Mercy Awarded 2009 Spirit of Collaboration
AZ LeaderForce awarded Mission of Mercy Arizona its 2009 Spirit of Collaboration Award for project results achieved during the course of its one-year mentorship. AZ LeaderForce is an initiative of the Collaboration for a New Century which pairs non-profit human service organizations with business experts and community leaders to help improve the agency's services.
Through the talented resources of the AZ LeaderForce team, Mission of Mercy developed a comprehensive volunteer management program, which will be piloted in 2010. You can read more about this exciting news in the Collaboration's Annual Report.
Weaving a Tapestry of Grace
Nearly 400 guests were part of the Tapestry of Grace as they attended our Third Annual Community Breakfast, Mercy in the Morning on December 3rd.
The program included inspiring comments by Mission of Mercy's Executive Director, Catherine Amiot as well as volunteers Tomas Abrate (age 17) and Dixie Melby (almost 90). Angela Gonzales and Ken Koshio provided a moving rendition of Amazing Grace which set the tone for the morning.
Welcome to Mission of Mercy-Arizona, a place where miracles of healing through Love occur every day! Since 1997 Mission of Mercy has been "bringing the doctor to the people" by taking a mobile medical unit to host sites throughout Maricopa County and providing free medical care and prescriptions to the uninsured, working poor and homeless of Maricopa County.
At Mission of Mercy, no one is denied care. For most us, being sick is an inconvenience; for our patients, it's a catastrophe. So, for over a decade, Mission of Mercy has provided a safe, non-judgmental medical home for people who cannot afford health care and are struggling to keep their families and their lives together.
At Mission of Mercy, we are committed that our patients receive an opportunity to:
- Restore their dignity by "healing through Love"
- Receive compassionate, holistic, high-quality medical care, prescription medications and patient education
- Receive specialty care referrals and patient navigation services, as needed
Building A Stronger Community...One Life at a Time. The day-to-day work of our clinics depends on 250 unpaid volunteers and community partners who donate over $450,000 in annual pro bono services. Medical staff and volunteers work collaboratively with patients and families to help them understand their medical conditions and take preventive action to avoid costly complications and further illness. Since beginning our work in 1997, we have provided no-cost medical care and prescriptions to more than 40,000 patients and delivered more than 105,000 individual patient visits to families throughout Maricopa County.
Headquartered in Phoenix but serving the broader Maricopa County area, the Arizona mobile program provides the following no cost services:
- Primary health care
- Non-emergency care for acute illness
- Episodic and long-term treatment of chronic illnesses (such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis, etc.)
- Prescription medications

- Patient referrals and navigation
Through our network of community partners, patients also receive free:
- Laboratory and blood work
- Imaging services (X-rays, MRIs, etc.)
- A limited number of surgeries
All services are provided free, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin or religion.
