Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Gifts of long-term appreciated stock or mutual funds offer a quick, easy and tax-efficient way to make a lasting contribution to Mission of Mercy and may bring about significant benefits to you as a contributor, such as:

For example, suppose the shares you bought in HELP Corp. for $500 now have a market value of $6,000. If you donate them to Mission of Mercy, you not only can offset the $6,000 donation against income, you will also avoid the tax on the $5,500 capital gain. (That is why it is better to transfer the stock to Mission of Mercy rather than selling it and giving Mission of Mercy the money).

Transfer Stock Electronically

If your broker or bank holds your securities, your gift can be electronically transferred. The following information will enable your broker to transfer your gift of stock to Mission of Mercy.

Matching Gifts

A corporate matching gift is a great way for Mission of Mercy's contributors to maximize personal donations to the organization and increase the impact of their gifts. Hundreds of corporations match the charitable contributions made by their employees, directors, employees' spouses, or retirees. You may double, or even triple your gift, by checking with your company's Human Resources Office to see if they participate in a matching gift program. For example, if you donate $100 to Mission of Mercy and your company offers a matching program at 2:1, your gift is now worth $200. Some companies will even match 3:1 or higher.

Double or triple your gift to Mission of Mercy by completing these simple steps:

  1. Contact your employer's human resource or personnel office to see if your company matches charitable contributions made by employees.
  2. Request a copy of the company's matching gift form. Please review the program guidelines to see if Mission of Mercy is eligible to receive matching gifts from your company.
  3. Complete the matching gift form and send it to Mission of Mercy along with your gift. Upon receipt, we will complete our portion of the form and return it to your employer. The matching gift will be sent directly to Mission of Mercy.

Workplace Giving Campaigns

Workplace giving campaigns (also called employee charitable fund drives) are solicitation programs conducted at places of employment. Gifts are made in the form of pledges via automatic payroll deductions, where a person can make a one-time donation or have a set amount deducted from their paycheck throughout the course of a year. Most campaigns are conducted in the fall, between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Be sure to look for Mission of Mercy in your company's brochure. If we are not listed, look for a special "Donor Option" on the pledge card that allows you to "write in" or designate Mission of Mercy to receive your gift.

Arizona, Maryland, Pennsylvania & Texas 2009 Designation Numbers

Since Mission of Mercy does not receive government funding, we rely solely on private contributions. Mission of Mercy would not be successful without the financial support garnered through workplace giving campaigns. The following list describes the different types of workplace giving campaigns. As you make your designations through the various combined charity campaigns, please keep us in mind. In addition, encourage your friends and family members to make their donations count by designating Mission of Mercy as their organization of choice.

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)

Each year, federal employees (and retirees) have the opportunity to designate a portion of their earnings to support charities. If you receive a paycheck from the federal government you can designate Mission of Mercy to receive your support.

State and Local Government Campaigns

Numerous state and local governments provide workplace-giving programs that allow employees (and often retirees) to give to charities through payroll deductions.

Corporate Giving Campaigns

Many companies participate in workplace giving campaigns through the United Way.

Arrange for Mission of Mercy to Speak at your Campaign Kick-off

Does your employer participate in a workplace giving campaign like the United Way, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), or a State and Local employee campaign? If so, you can help Mission of Mercy tell its story by arranging to have us come speak at your organization's campaign kick-off. Each year, with the support of friends like you, representatives from Mission of Mercy make presentations throughout the areas where we operate. This is a great way for you to help us get our story out and to gain financial support for Mission of Mercy. Memorial Gifts / Honorariums

Making a memorial or honorarium gift to Mission of Mercy is a thoughtful way to honor the memory of someone dear to you, celebrate accomplishments or mark a special date while at the same time help Mission of Mercy serve the uninsured working poor, homeless and economically disadvantaged. If you want to make a donation in memory of a deceased family member or friend, Mission of Mercy will send a card to that person's family acknowledging your thoughtful donation. You may add a personalized message to the card. You will receive a letter confirming that your donation has been received and that a gift card has been sent.

Planned Giving

Planned giving options allow you to provide for Mission of Mercy in your estate plans. Examples of planned gifts are bequests, transfer of IRA plans, and charitable remainder trusts. Foundations/Corporations

Mission of Mercy's Development Office is available to assist your organization in identifying and developing opportunities for collaboration that will allow you to invest in our healthcare services, volunteers, and your community. Our office will work directly with your representatives to ensure the creation of a mutually beneficial partnership.

Gifts In Kind

A Gift-in-Kind, defined as a non-cash donation to Mission of Mercy, is used by the organization to carry out its healthcare services. Gifts-in-kind include sample prescription medications (contact office before donating), medical and dental equipment and supplies, computers, office equipment, gala silent auction items, golf tournament auction items, etc. Please contact Mission of Mercy's at (301) 682-5683 to discuss our gift-in-kind needs.
