Administrative OfficeThe first Mission of Mercy Invitational Golf Tournament scored in ways beyond words! Not only was our projected revenue met, but one player even hit a hole-in-one resulting in a $10,000 prize! This particular golfer's mother volunteers at one of our clinic sites. Amazing!
We were fortunate to have Champions Tour Player Phil Blackmar as our guest professional. He played first drives with each team. The Texas A&M Women's Golf Team also participated by making putts for golfer's requesting their expert approach. The live auction that followed the tournament raised enough money to help us claim a $5,000 challenge grant offered by a local philanthropic organization!
MOM Medical Director Coleen Madigan, M.D.; Executive Director Patty Clark, and Ace maker Soren Peterson find it easy to flash megawatt smiles after his hole-in-one on the $10,000.00 money hole at Mission of Mercy's First Invitational Golf Tournament held Sunday, May 3, 2009. Beautiful Newport Dunes Golf Club on Mustang Island in Port Aransas, Texas, was the site for the event.
Golf Committee Chairman Don Clark; MOM Executive Director Patty Clark, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi Women's Golf Team and their Coach Carol Blackmar, prepare for a day of fun in the sun on Mustang Island.
Patient Survey Reveals Proof of Health Impact on Patients and Economic Impact on Community
A recent patient satisfaction survey revealed the impact of our services on our patients and the community emergency rooms. Of 59 surveys distributed, 39 were returned, with 35 being complete. These surveys represent 3.5% of our current patient population of 1104. In the question phrased "in the year before becoming a Mission of Mercy patient, how many times did you access care at a local emergency room" and the follow up question of "in the year since becoming a Mission of Mercy patient, how many times did you access care at a local emergency room", the results were nothing short of amazing. Of the 35 patients, 23 reported that prior to becoming our patients, their visits ranged from one to eight times. Since becoming our patient, that number dropped to ZERO. Of the remaining 12, their one to eight times visits before becoming our patients dropped to one to two since becoming our patients. With local emergency room costs running around $10,000, this easily translates into over $200,000.00 in non-reimbursed emergency room charges that were NOT incurred. Is isn't difficult to imagine the true savings to the community if the remaining 96.5% or 1,069 patients reduced their visits to the emergency room by just one time per year. This figure could quickly climb into the millions of dollars of savings. Better for our patients, and better for our community.
As part of our mission to keep our patients well and out of the local emergency rooms, this patient survey affirms that we are fulfilling this goal and certainly puts the exclamation point on how effectively we are serving our patients, their families, and our community.
